Break Up, Glow Up is a private space for one person: you. This page explains in plain language what we store and what we do with it.

Who is responsible for your data

Break Up, Glow Up is owned and operated by Jacqueline Holland Seymour, who is the data controller for the personal data described here — meaning she decides how and why your data is used, and is responsible for it. Contact: support@breakupglowup.app.

What we store and why

Your email address and password (stored encrypted, never in readable form), used to create and secure your account. The things you create in the app: emotion check-ins, journal entries, notebook notes, no-contact days, gratitude and challenge lines, unsent messages and Future Me letters — stored to provide the service to you. Basic technical data such as your IP address and device/browser type may be processed by our hosting provider to keep the service secure and running. If you buy a plan, we store the fact that your plan is active — card details are handled by Paddle and never reach our servers.

Our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running your account and the features you use), our legitimate interests (security, preventing fraud, improving the app), your consent where we ask for it (for example optional features), and legal obligations (such as tax records kept by Paddle).

Who we share data with

We share personal data only with: the service providers who run the app (hosting, authentication and database infrastructure, and the AI provider described below); Paddle, our Merchant of Record, which processes your purchase, payment, tax compliance and invoicing when you buy a plan (see Paddle's privacy notice); professional advisers such as accountants where needed; and authorities where the law requires it. We never sell your personal data.

Who can see your writing

Only you. Your entries are tied to your account and protected so that no other user can read them. We do not read your journal for marketing, we do not sell or share your writing, and we do not use it to train AI models.

The AI reflection

When you ask for a reflection on a journal entry, that entry's text is sent to an AI provider to generate the response, then the response is saved to your account. The provider processes it to answer your request only and does not use it to train models. If you would rather not use this, simply don't tap the reflection button — journaling works without it.

Sign in with Google or Apple

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only your email address (or Apple's private relay address, if you choose to hide it) so we can create and recognise your account. We never receive your password, contacts, photos or anything else from those accounts.

Children

Break Up, Glow Up is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

How long we keep data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When data is no longer needed — for example after you delete entries or close your account — it is deleted or anonymised. Purchase and tax records are kept by Paddle for the periods the law requires.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data: to access it, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to how it is used, take it with you (portability), and withdraw consent where we rely on it. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email support@breakupglowup.app — we respond within one month.

Security

We protect your data with appropriate technical and organisational measures: encrypted connections, encrypted password storage, access controls, and row-level isolation so each account can only ever read its own entries.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies and browser storage — the ones needed to keep you signed in and make the app work. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser settings, but sign-in will stop working until you log in again.

International transfers

Our service providers (hosting, database, AI, and Paddle) may process data outside your country, including outside the UK/EEA. Where they do, transfers are protected by safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual entries and notes at any time inside the app. To delete your account and everything in it permanently, email support@breakupglowup.app from your account address and we will remove it within 30 days.

Not medical care

The app offers reflection and structure, not therapy or diagnosis. If you are in crisis, call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or your local emergency number.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so in the app. Questions: support@breakupglowup.app.
